During the spring of 2024, I was contacted to replace a failing deck in Cortlandville, NY. The old covered deck was in very poor condition and dangerous. The goal was to create an area that was larger than the original and stand the test of time. Through multiple design changes, the client was able to land on a decision for a 16x20 pressure treated deck that could later be stained. This project was completed in September of 2024.

My favorite part was something I had not done before, but we decided to give it a try; 2x12 rims. These extremely heavy boards were added around the perimeter of the deck for a larger, more substantial look. I will certainly be doing it again in the future.

It should also be mentioned that all of the joists are 12” on center for future composite walking surface. That, along with the 4x6 braces, make this the most sturdy deck I have ever walked on.

Meanwhile, this home will have several more upgrades through the next year, including an updated garage, new siding, and a new roof.
